Diligence Pays

What can I say? When in a reading class, one must read!

I can say that I am jealous of my students in this class...imagine going to an 1 1/2 hour long class every other day where one is allowed to choose a book and then just set there and read! Sounds like a vacation to me!

And these kiddos are literally surrounded by books, books there for their choosing.

So let's read! And read!

9/11 Remembered

Today I read "9/11 Remembered: An Eyewitness Account" to my eighth grade lit lab class and was proudly surprised with how my students responded when I said, "You may not remember what you were doing..." Didn't get to finish, for they quickly told me that they do remember exactly what they were doing on that day, seven years ago.

May we never forget.

For as vivid as our memories are, the memories of those there and of those who lost loved ones have to be that much more vivid.

May we never forget.

The Twilight Zone

Yes, I have entered the zone...again!

My starting this Twilight series is thanks to several people:
  1. My new bunch of 8th graders! During our first class together, I was purely amazed at your excitement for reading! Way to go! (I am sure this is, in part, thanks to Mrs. Roepke's inspiring room and her energy for this topic...thanks, Mrs. Roepke!).
  2. My high school students who have just finished the fourth book. Thanks, Adelle, for your commentary about the novels!
  3. Mrs. Huff...what can I say? She is a self-proclaimed vampire addict! Be careful around her...in her excitement she revealed a "spoiler," but that was okay...just made me want to read more to see how that spoiler comes to pass!
  4. Mrs. Hubbell - I was excited to hear that she is into this series!

We are all excited about the upcoming release of the first Twilight movie release on November 21. Mark your calendars! I'll see you at the theater. In the mean time, though....

Shhhh...I'm entering the zone...the Twilight Zone!

The Journey Begins

This begins a blogging journey with a new group of students in a different building...but on a topic I really like...reading!

As I thought about this class, I decided to read with them and re-start a series that I began nearly a year ago...yes, the Twilight series...yes, book one. Shhh...don't give anything away (no spoilers!), for I know that many of you have already read this series!

Just think, though, it won't be long until we can discuss this book.

Will you be ready? Ready for the journey?
